This Album cover by the Stone Roses is a very typical look for a band of their Genre. Monotone colours creates the affect of the band being a mature yet relaxed and enjoyable sound to listen to.
Arnold Newman, created multiple images using a monotone style. In the Complete Photographer, a caption by Newman states;
'It can be more effective to work in Black and White, especially when a colourful environment would distract from the main subject of the portrait.'
That I think is true with this image, as the monotone sets a distinction for the music and the characters in the band, with that studio recording feel and look to the cover.
this is a good use of simple but effective portrait and colour work, that may be an example we could use to affect in our creation.
